<p>Unless you&#8217;ve been living under a rock for the past few months, if you have any interest in losing weight then you must have heard of either the cabbage soup diet, the acai berry detox diet that was made popular on Oprah and the Banana diet. Yup, if you&#8217;re thinking these all sound wacky then you wouldn&#8217;t be too far off. Instead of speculating let me tell you briefly about each one and what the best way to lose weight in 2009 will be. Hopefully this way you&#8217;ll avoid some of the fad diets of 2008 this way and use some new weight loss diets that actually work.</p>

<p><strong>The Cabbage Soup Diet </strong></p>
<p><strong>What do you do?</strong> You eat cabbage soup every day for 7 days with a set amount of additional food each day. For example, on the first day you can have the soup and some fruits, another day you&#8217;re allowed the soup and some lean meat etc.</p>
<p><strong>Does it work?</strong> In comparison to the next couple of fad diets I&#8217;ll mention, I&#8217;d say this one has the most legitimate claim to weight loss. By restricting carbs for the majority of the diet and primarily going off of soups and raw foods some days, weight loss can actually be expected. The change ups in the diet are a little strange, but overall this one isn&#8217;t bad, and the fresh cabbage soup you need to eat every day can be quite good for you, assuming you&#8217;re making it fresh and from scratch.</p>
<p><strong>The Acai Berry Detox Diet</strong></p>
<p><strong>What do you do?</strong> Drink Acai berry juice everyday with a fiber shake&#8230; that&#8217;s it.</p>
<p><strong>Does it Work?</strong> I&#8217;m not fond of this diet at all, because it isn&#8217;t one, and I feel there&#8217;s quite a bit of deception surrounding it. For one thing it proposes Acai berry as the leading reason for its weight loss, when in reality it&#8217;s the fiber shake that you need to drink every day that&#8217;s providing the majority, if not all of the weight loss related benefits. Acai berries have many nutritional benefits. However I believe the push that they&#8217;re getting for weight loss is unfounded and is just a way to cash in on the VERY expensive Acai juice that sells typically for around  for 30 servings, of which you are required to take 2 of every day to truly notice anything at all. If this is a special diet then so is eating fresh fruit and taking fiber every day, oh wait that&#8217;s called staying healthy!</p>
<p><strong>The Banana Diet</strong></p>
<p><strong>What do you do?</strong> You wake up drink some warm water and eat as many bananas as you&#8217;d like until you&#8217;re no longer hungry. Then eat whatever you want for the rest of the day.</p>
<p><strong>Does it work?</strong> I think these fad diets are just getting worse. The testimonials behind the success of this diet are sketchy at best, oh and they originated online too so don&#8217;t place too much in the way of expectations on this diet. If this was actually a structured diet, as opposed to just eating bananas for breakfast then maybe there could be something to it, the way it is though its lacking&#8230; Significantly!</p>

<p>It&#8217;s very hard for me to imagine Jillian Barberie ever needing to lose weight. Although she&#8217;s known as the tomboyish weather girl who jokes with Howie Long on Fox Sports, she&#8217;s always been a knock out who wasn&#8217;t afraid to showcase her obviously fit body.</p>
<p>She&#8217;s even disclosed in several interviews that she never really had to work out to maintain her weight. She admits did try to watch what she ate and limit her intake of carbs, but she was never fanatical about this.</p>
<p>So when she got pregnant at age 40 (unbelievably, she is now 41), her doctor told her if she wasn&#8217;t currently exercising there was no reason to start. So she took this as a license to eat the carbs and sweets that she had restricted before. In particular, she ate a lot of French fries, bread, and pasta. She says it was not uncommon to eat the whole bread basket at a restaurant.</p>
<p>Jillian expected to gain weight, but what she did not expect was weight gain in areas that weren&#8217;t housing her daughter Ruby, like her arms, legs and face. But, she didn&#8217;t let this concern her because she felt the weight gain was necessary to ensure her daughter&#8217;s health.</p>
<p>Baby Ruby weighed in at a little over six pounds, yet Jillian had racked up over 40 pounds in baby weight that was very slow to come off. This is hard to picture, but there is actually a Nutrisystem ad of her wearing a tent dress that is hard to argue.</p>
<p>So, like Tori Spelling before her, Jillian Barberie signed on for Nutrisystem, but made it clear that it was necessary for her to eat real, sports type foods like pizza, burgers and chocolate. Luckily, this diet has these offerings as well as 130 others like ravioli, macaroni and cheese, tacos, and fudge. Jillian swears she actually likes most of the foods.</p>
<p>As the weight came off, she became more motivated to introduce exercising because she wanted to speed the weight loss and she knew that being thin and toned are two different things, especially after having a baby. For the first time, she embraced cardio and some weights and the results are fabulous.</p>
<p>So fabulous that this 41 year old mother has been making the media rounds and filming commercials in a bikini. She certainly doesn&#8217;t look like Kirstie Alley on Oprah. She looks fantastic and better than ever. She has recently disclosed that she is still using Nutrisytem food to maintain her weight.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s hard not to begrudge Jillian Barberie because, except for a tiny blip, she&#8217;s always looked perfect, (and still does), but it&#8217;s also really easy to identify with baby weight that won&#8217;t come off, and to find inspiration in her results.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p><strong>How Hard Is It To Have Success And Lose Weight On Nutrisystem?</strong></p>
<p>I&#8217;m often asked why some people seem to have relatively easy and quick success on the Nutrisystem diet while others have a harder time. This is a somewhat difficult question. It&#8217;s difficult to know exactly how, or if, each person follows the plan and what their unique circumstances and situations are. In general terms, though, there&#8217;s not a whole lot that is required in terms of compliance. They allow you to eat a lot of comfort type foods like pizza, ravioli, pretzels, chocolate bars, and cereal. You&#8217;re only asked to eat the foods that they send to you and add in a few of your own. And, you do get to eat five times per day.</p>
<p>At first glance, this does not leave a lot of room for error, but it&#8217;s my belief that even the small choices you make can sometimes mean the difference in the timing that it takes to meet your goals. I will discuss this more in the following article.</p>
<p><strong>Why Your Side Items Can Influence The Degree Of Success That You Have On Nutrisystem (And How Fast You Reach Your Goals:)</strong> If you&#8217;ve done any research on this diet, you probably already know that the whole thing is based on the friendly glycemic index. The carb to protein ratio is such that helps your body to get into ketosis, where it can more easily and quickly burn fat. Also, you&#8217;ll be taking in less calories than usual. These two things work together to ensure that you&#8217;re going to get different results because your body is experiencing something different that makes it favorable for you to drop the weight.</p>
<p>So, where is there potential to go wrong? Well, there are two main ones. You can either take in too many calories or too many carbs. Since most of the food is provided for you, then the potential for messing this up is pretty much limited to your side items that you get to chose. While it&#8217;s nice that you get to have a lot of variety and can make some of your own decisions, it&#8217;s important that you make the right ones.</p>
<p>Now, they do make this pretty easy. You&#8217;ve given pretty detailed instructions as well as suggested sides for every meal. So long as you pay attention, you really should be OK. But many people make the mistake of thinking, for example, that all yogurt is created equal. It truly isn&#8217;t. You might innocently add yogurt to your breakfast, not realizing that you&#8217;re adding in as much sugar as you&#8217;d take in from ice cream.</p>
<p>Get into the habit of always looking at the sugar, calorie, and carbohydrate content of any thing that you are going to add in. Imagine for a second if you mistakenly add in high calorie or high carb items at each meal. Imagine what this would do to your calorie and carb content at the end of the day. It just might get you out of ketosis, right? And this is the last thing that you want. Because as long as you remain in ketosis, if you&#8217;re like many people, you should lose weight. You&#8217;re allowed reasonable sides, just be careful not to chose high sugar / high carb items.</p>
<p><strong>What Does Attitude Have To Do With Nutrisystem Success?:</strong> You may be surprised when I tell you that attitude isn&#8217;t the most important thing. You can go kicking and screaming into your diet plan and it doesn&#8217;t matter all that much – as long as you keep going. That&#8217;s the whole central issue right there. If you keep on going, it doesn&#8217;t matter all that much if you&#8217;re happy to be on a diet or not. Say for example that you want to lose 25 pounds. If you lose 3 pounds per week but then stop after four weeks, then you would not have met your goal.</p>
<p>But, here&#8217;s the thing. There&#8217;s no reason to be unhappy about meeting your goal. This will be so much more pleasant if you do what you need to do to make the process a desirable one. Because if you&#8217;re fighting with yourself every day, it&#8217;s going to be harder for you to stick with this long term. Now, the company does a nice job of giving you decent alternatives. Not many diets offer chocolate bars or strawberry short cake. Experiment to see which sides make you the happiest while staying within the guidelines. Give yourself rewards at the end of each week. (Clothing is good because it reinforces what you are trying to do.) Begin paying attention to your appearance and stress clothing that draws attention the the improvements that you are making.</p>
<p>Once you begin to feel really good about what you are doing, it&#8217;s so much easier to keep right on going. Positive reinforcement is an important step to maintaining your success. Sometimes, you have to provide this for yourself. This is not vain, selfish, or self centered. This is you taking control of your own health and appearance.</p>
<p><strong>How Important Is Exercise To Nutrisystem Success?: </strong>I&#8217;m asked this question quite a bit. You don&#8217;t want to go full force when you are in ketosis, in my opinion. Your body is already working pretty hard. However, it&#8217;s never a bad idea to move more. You don&#8217;t have to do anything that you find undesirable. But there is usually something for you that will both burn a few more calories as well as being fun.</p>
<p>Moving more is going to do a few things for you. First, you&#8217;ll burn more calories which will help you to get the results that you want. Second, you will feel better, sleep better, and look better. Again, this helps to keep the cycle of feeling good about this whole process going. Third, like eating better and moving more eventually becomes a habit and that&#8217;s the whole idea. You want to wake up one day to realize that you&#8217;ve made many positive and lasting changes that are very sustainable.</p>

<p>I know what you are probably thinking when you see the photos of Jillian Barberie in a bikini or Marie Osmond wearing a dress with a cinched, tiny waist, because I think the same thing. Both women have lost over 40 pounds on the Nutrisystem program. And, I want so badly to be happy for and inspired by them. Really, I do. But sometimes I can&#8217;t help thinking that these celebrities probably have chefs and trainers and all kinds of folks to help them through this – which are luxuries that I just don&#8217;t have.</p>
<p>But, one recent day after I had a particularly nice weigh in myself, I started to think about this a little more deeply. The truth is, no chef is needed to prepare nutriystem food. You are really only assembling it and this takes about two minutes. If you can use a microwave and blender, this is all you really need.</p>
<p>Now, everyone saw Marie Osmond shaking it on &#8220;Dancing With The Stars,&#8221; so we know she had a strenuous work out regimen. Jillian Barberie has said that she never really worked out until she had trouble losing postpartum weight following the birth of her baby. So, she did take up power walking and lifting weights, and if you&#8217;ve seen the photos of her in a bikini, you know that she&#8217;s been quite successful. She&#8217;s thin all right, but she&#8217;s also very toned.</p>
<p>Admittedly, it&#8217;s really easy to look at these celebrities and feel a slight bit of envy and discomfort. But, if you think about it, it really comes down to eating less calories and carbs (Nutrisystem takes care of this and the &#8220;celebrities&#8221; have no advantage here, as we all eat the same food) and moving our bodies more.</p>
<p>Sure, Marie Osmond got to have all kinds on fun on &#8220;Dancing With The Stars&#8221; and Jillian made friends with some hand weights, but couldn&#8217;t we normal folks also work out more? If we enjoy dancing, we shouldn&#8217;t need &#8220;Dancing With The Stars&#8221; to dance a mean mambo. If we&#8217;d like to hit the weights like Jillian, we can do so pretty easily. Hand weights are readily available and quite cheap.</p>
<p>I think the major difference is that celebrities are being watched and are therefore under intense pressure to follow the plan to the letter in order to succeed. If I am honest with myself, this kind of immediate pressure would likely kick up my efforts.</p>
<p>So, maybe it is not the celebrity pampering we need to emulate, but the spotlight. Because, if I knew someone was going to be zooming a tight lens in on my body for all the world to see, I&#8217;d be much more motivated to get moving.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p></p><p><strong>How Much Cooking Or Meal Preparation Do You Have To Do On Nutrisystem?</strong></p>
<p>Someone recently asked me how much shopping, cooking, planning or cleaning you have to do on the Nutrisystem diet. The answer is not much. While you will be eating five times each day, for the most part, all of these meals are provided for you. When you place an order, the company ships all of your meals to wherever you direct them to. While some of these meals require for you to assemble them to to add dairy, fruit, or veggie sides, this takes only minimal effort. In the following article, I&#8217;ll provide an example of a day&#8217;s worth of meals and sides on Nutrisystem to show you how much cooking or food preparation is involved.</p>
<p>For our example breakfast, let&#8217;s have the Nutrifrosted crunch cereal. Our side for this can be strawberries. All this would require would be to cut up the strawberries. If this is an issue or you don&#8217;t have time for this, you could chose a cup of yogurt for your side instead. Other than the strawberries or whatever side you chose, all you really have to do is pour the cereal and milk.</p>
<p>For lunch, let&#8217;s have the fettuccine Alfredo. This item can be microwaved (which I think is the easiest way) or prepared on top of the oven. Either way, it&#8217;s quick and easy, but using the microwave is a no brainer for me. There&#8217;s a fill line so you know where to stop when you add the water. I figure sliced tomatoes would be a good side for this one. But if you don&#8217;t have time to slice the tomatoes, you could use already cut up carrots or celery sticks.</p>
<p>For an afternoon snack, let&#8217;s have nachos. This pretty much only requires for you to open the bag and dig in. For dinner, I&#8217;ve chosen the pepper steak with noodles. It&#8217;s kind of a no brainer to have a small salad as your side. You could also go for red pepper slices or, if you wanted something ready made, cottage cheese. This once can be microwaved or boiling water can be added to it.</p>
<p>Finally, dessert would be our last meal of the day. I would chose the fudge brownie. Like the cereal and the nachos, this item is ready to eat. You just remove the wrapper. As you might can tell from this article, there is very little (if any) cooking or preparation involved with the Nutrisystem diet. Most of the meals require very minimal efforts like removing the wrapper, or pouring and / or microwaving or heating up the food in whichever way you chose.</p>
<p>For people who enjoy cooking, this might not be all that attractive. But I&#8217;ve always seen this as a positive thing because I&#8217;m one of those people who would prefer that most of work has been done for me. If you give me a lot of wiggle room to make the wrong choices, I&#8217;m generally going to. So I&#8217;d rather only be responsible for following along and eating what has been provided.</p>

<p>The Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet is based on an idea called &#8220;calorie shifting&#8221;.   Calorie shifting basically means eating smaller meals but eating more meals throughout the day.  You get to eat 5-6 smaller meals instead of 3 large ones.  By doing this, they say, you store less fat and use up the fat you have.</p>
<p>The Fat Loss 4 Idiots site points out how calorie shifting is different than traditional diets (low fat, low carb, and low calorie).  </p>
<p>Low calorie diets fail, they argue, because your metabolism slows down.  With a slowed down metabolism, you cannot lose fat.</p>
<p>With low fat diets, dieters often subconsciously compensate by eating more of the &#8220;low fat&#8221; product.</p>
